How to Cancel a Skool Subscription: Steps and Refunds
How to cancel a Skool subscription as a paid member or a community owner, plus what Skool's refund policy really says. Access runs to the cycle end.
To cancel a paid Skool membership, click your profile picture in the top right, go to Settings, open the Communities tab, click SETTINGS next to the community, then click Manage membership and complete the cancellation. You keep access until the end of your current billing cycle, and cancelling does not automatically refund anything. Skool recommends cancelling at least 24 hours before your renewal date.
There are three different cancellations people search for and they work differently, so the first thing to establish is which one you actually need.
The short version
- Member cancelling a community: Settings, Communities tab, Manage membership
- Owner cancelling their own group: Settings, Billing tab, Manage subscription
- Access after cancelling: continues to the end of the billing cycle
- Automatic refund: no, cancelling never issues one
- Refund decisions: made by the community's admins, not by Skool
- Refund processing time: around 7 to 10 business days once approved
How to cancel a paid membership to someone else's community
This is the one most people mean. You are paying a monthly or annual fee to a community you joined, and you want it to stop.
On desktop:
- Click your Skool profile picture in the upper right corner, then click Settings.
- Open the Communities tab and click SETTINGS next to the community you want to leave.
- Click Manage membership and follow the prompts to cancel.
In the mobile app the path is shorter:
- Open the community, tap the three dots menu, then tap Group Settings.
- Tap Manage Membership.
- Complete the cancellation.
You are removed from the group at the end of your billing cycle rather than immediately, so you keep whatever access you paid for. Skool's own guidance is to cancel at least 24 hours before the rebilling date, because a payment that has already been triggered is a refund question rather than a cancellation question.
One important exception: if you paid the community owner outside Skool, this path will not stop the charge. Payments processed off the platform have to be cancelled with the community admins directly, and leaving the group first only makes it harder to reach them.
How to cancel your own Skool community as an owner
If you created a group, you are subscribed to Skool itself rather than to another creator, and the cancellation lives in a different place.
- Go to your Community Settings and click SETTINGS for the group.
- Open the Billing tab and click Manage subscription. In the app you may need to scroll the settings menu sideways to reach Billing.
- Click Cancel subscription.
Your content is not destroyed. Skool's help centre states everything is saved as it is and the group can be reactivated later. This is also the path for cancelling the platform free trial before it converts. If the Billing tab is not visible, Skool's documented fix is to zoom the browser out with Command and minus on a Mac or Ctrl and minus on Windows.
What Skool's refund policy actually says
This is where most of the confusion and most of the frustration lives, so it is worth being precise.
| Question | The answer |
|---|---|
| Does cancelling trigger a refund? | No. Cancelling a subscription or leaving a group never issues one automatically |
| Who decides refunds? | The community's admins. Payment terms are set per community, not by Skool |
| Are partial periods refunded? | No refunds for partial billing periods unless a specific promotional offer says otherwise |
| Do you lose access immediately? | No. Access continues to the end of the renewal period you already paid for |
| How do you request one? | Contact the group admins through Skool Chat or the community's support email |
| How long does it take? | Usually around 7 to 10 business days once the admin approves it |
The single most useful thing to understand is that Skool is the payment rail, not the merchant. When you buy a membership you are buying from the creator who runs that community, and their stated terms govern the refund. This is why you see communities on Skool advertising 14 day guarantees, 7 day guarantees, or explicitly no refunds at all: each owner sets their own, and the about page is where they publish it. The platform side of the bill works differently, and what Skool costs and the fees Skool takes on a sale are set by Skool rather than by the owner.
Read the refund terms before you join, not after
Because refund policy is set per community, the about page is the contract. Communities that offer a guarantee almost always say so in large text, and communities that do not usually state that plainly too. If a page says nothing either way, the safe assumption is that you are buying a full billing period.
The platform-level free trial is a separate thing again, and it is worth knowing which trial you are on. A trial offered by a community owner covers that community's fee. The Skool platform trial covers the cost of running your own group. Those are explained in full in the Skool free trial explained.
If you are an owner reading this: your refund policy is a conversion tool, and vagueness costs you money in both directions. A clearly stated guarantee raises signups, and a clearly stated no-refund line lowers disputes. Silence gets you the worst of both, because cautious buyers hesitate and disappointed ones feel misled.
What to do if you cannot reach the admins
Skool's documented process routes refund requests to the community admins through Skool Chat or the community's support email. If a community has gone quiet, contact Skool support and explain that the group is unresponsive, and check whether your payment was actually processed through Skool or taken off the platform, because that changes who can help. Keep the dates: when you cancelled, when the charge landed, and when you first made contact.
The three cancellations, side by side
| You are | What you are cancelling | Where to go |
|---|---|---|
| A paid member | A membership to someone else's community | Settings, Communities tab, Manage membership |
| A community owner | Your Skool platform subscription or trial | Settings, Billing tab, Manage subscription |
| Paying off-platform | A charge Skool never processed | Contact the community admins directly |
Frequently asked questions
How do I completely cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings, open the Communities tab, click SETTINGS beside the community, then Manage membership and complete the cancellation. That stops future billing. To also stop paying Skool for a community you own, cancel separately under Settings, Billing tab, Manage subscription. Cancelling one does not cancel the other.
How do I stop subscription payments on Skool?
Cancel through the Manage membership or Manage subscription flow above, at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Do not rely on removing your card or leaving the group, because if the payment was processed off the platform the charge is controlled by the community admin rather than by Skool.
Do I get a refund when I cancel Skool?
Not automatically. Skool's help centre states that cancelling a subscription or leaving a group will not issue a refund, and that no refunds are given for partial billing periods unless a promotional offer says otherwise. You have to request one from the community's admins, and whether you get it depends on the terms that community published.
How long does a Skool refund take?
Around 7 to 10 business days once the group admin approves it. The money returns to the payment method you originally used.
Do I lose access to the community straight away?
No. You keep access until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for, and you are removed from the group at that point.
How do I delete my Skool account permanently?
Cancelling a membership and deleting an account are different actions. Cancel every paid membership and any community subscription first so nothing keeps billing, then contact Skool support to request account deletion. Deleting an account while a subscription is still active does not reliably stop the charge.
