Khirye Tyler Black Suit Music: The $15 Skool

Black Suit Music is Khirye Tyler's Skool community for touring and musical director work, 549 members at $15 a month run by one admin.

Black Suit Music is Khirye Tyler's Skool community for musicians chasing touring, session and musical director work, with 549 members at $15 per month and a single admin, the founder. It reached rank 11 in the Skool Games Music top 50 within roughly nine months of opening. The page is worth studying because the credentials it claims would, taken at face value, sit behind a far higher price, and the price is $15 anyway.

How Black Suit Music sells

The page sells readiness for a phone call that has not come yet. Its opening instruction is "stay locked in, opportunities are constantly coming in", and its closing line is "lock in, engage, and stay ready", which frames the product as preparation rather than instruction.

For a working musician that framing lands where the pain actually is. Their problem is rarely that they cannot play. It is that when a tour, a session or a fill-in call lands, they are not prepared for the specific standard the gig demands, and the call goes to someone who was. A page that sold technique would be selling to the wrong ache.

The credentials do the heavy lifting in the middle. Naming three artists is more persuasive than any paragraph about experience, and the sentence that follows them is the actual offer: "my goal is to pour that real-world experience back into you."

What the about page actually says

The Black Suit Music about page is reproduced in full below. Five lines are numbered; hover one to see what it is doing.

1Welcome to the community! Stay locked in. Opportunities are constantly coming in.

2This Skool is built to develop musicians who are serious about operating at the highest professional level. Here, you'll gain access to real guidance, proven strategies, and the mindset required to succeed in today's music industry.

3I've served as a musical director for artists such as Alicia Keys, Khalid, and Doechii, and many others. My goal is to pour that real-world experience back into you.

4This space connects musicians, producers, singers, and creatives who want to grow, collaborate, and be fully prepared when doors open.

5You'll find training, challenges, resources, and real pathways into the field, whether it's live gigs, touring, sessions, or creative projects. Lock in, engage, and stay ready. Your next level starts here.
The about copy above is reproduced verbatim from the community's public Skool about page. Every claim on that page is the community's own, reported as written and not verified by us, including the artists named and the reference to real pathways into the field. Membership, staffing and price are a snapshot taken on 26 August 2026 and will move.

Why price a page like this at $15?

Because at $15 the buyer stops deciding about money and starts deciding about themselves. A musician weighing a $150 mentorship asks whether the mentor is worth it. A musician weighing $15 asks whether they will actually show up, which is exactly the question this page wants asked, since its entire promise is readiness.

The arithmetic still works at that price because of volume. 549 members at $15 is roughly $8,200 a month gross before Skool's fees, from a room that opened in December 2025. Reaching rank 11 in the Music top 50 inside nine months at the cheapest price of any room we have broken down in that top 50 is the whole argument for the strategy.

There is a second effect that is easy to miss. A low price with a high credential creates a queue rather than a filter, and the qualification then has to happen inside the room. That is why the copy spends a whole sentence on "serious about operating at the highest professional level" and why the calls to action are all verbs about participating: locked in, engage, stay ready.

What the price is filtering for At $15 per month At $150 per month
Can the buyer afford it? Almost always yes The main question
Will the buyer show up? The main question Assumed by the price
Who qualifies members? The community's culture The invoice
What the founder must supply Standards and momentum Individual attention

Neither column is better. They are different businesses, and this page has picked the left one and then written copy that does the qualifying the price is no longer doing. One admin, 549 members

At 549 members Black Suit Music was the largest single-admin roster we had logged in the Music category when this was written, taking the title from a 378-member drumming community also run by its founder alone. It was superseded in August 2026 by Key Learners Piano Club, which runs about 2,300 members on one admin at $1 a month.

Read the deliverables and you can see why one person can hold it. Training, challenges and resources are built once. There is no promised weekly call, no one to one feedback, no response time. The only ongoing obligation the page creates is that opportunities keep being posted, which is a task measured in minutes rather than hours for someone already working in the industry.

Promise a standing state, not a scheduled service: "stay ready" has no calendar attached, so it never runs late. A weekly call is a promise with a clock on it, and a clock is the thing that breaks first when a founder gets busy.

The risk sits in the same place. A community whose product is opportunity flow depends entirely on opportunities continuing to flow, and that supply is the founder's working life, not a system. The 1,039 posts in nine months suggest it is flowing so far.

The traffic story behind the rank

Black Suit Music recorded 7,149 visitors in the window measured by Skool's public leaderboard, against 3,271 for the trumpet academy at rank 12, 2,088 for the piano room at rank 8 and 460 for the closed DJ room at rank 9. Updated 29 August 2026: a later pull put this room at 8,197 visitors and rank 12, so both the traffic figure and the ordering above describe the 26 August board rather than a fixed position. A $15 door behind the artist credits this page claims converts differently from a $74 door, and it also earns more of the platform's own distribution.

That matters because on Skool, discovery is partly a function of how a room performs once people land on it. A cheap, well-known offer gets more of the traffic the platform has to give away. For how that machinery works, see how to rank on Skool Discovery and our explainer on Skool Growth Boost.

The funnel, step by step

Musicians arrive on the strength of the founder's claimed credits and the platform's own discovery traffic, pay $15, and then stay because leaving means not being in the room on the day a gig is posted.

Industry reputation and artist credits
Musician and producer networks
Skool Discovery, ranked 11 in Music
BLACK SUIT MUSIC549 members, $15/mo
Training, challenges, resourcesBuilt once, no scheduled live promise
Opportunities posted into the room, so the reason to stay subscribed is being present on the day a gig appears rather than finishing a curriculum

The subscription logic here is the same as an insurance policy and it is unusually honest about it. You are not paying to consume something this month. You are paying to be in the room when a call comes, which is why cancelling feels like leaving early rather than finishing.

The formula you can copy

Lead with the specific credential, not the category. Three artist names beat fifteen years of experience, because names can be checked and years cannot.

Then decide which question you want your price to ask. A high price asks whether you are worth it. A low price asks whether the buyer will show up. If your product is readiness or access rather than instruction, the second question is the more useful one, and your copy has to do the qualifying the price gave up.

Finally, promise a state rather than a schedule. "Stay ready" scales to any roster size and never runs late, which is how one person holds 549 members without the offer cracking. Who is Khirye Tyler?

Khirye Tyler is a musical director, music producer and instrumentalist, and the founder of Black Suit Music on Skool. His community's about page states he has served as musical director for artists including Alicia Keys, Khalid and Doechii, which we report as the page's own claim.

What does a musical director actually do?

A musical director, often shortened to MD, is the musician who runs an artist's live show. That means choosing and arranging the set, hiring and rehearsing the band, building the click tracks and backing files, running rehearsals, and cueing the band on stage so the show matches the artist's records. On tour the MD is the person the artist talks to about the music and the person the band answers to.

How do you become a musical director?

There is no single route, but the common path is to be hired first as a player, become the most reliable and best-prepared person in the band, and then be handed responsibility for arrangements, rehearsals or the click track. Strong keyboard or guitar skills, fluent chart reading, comfort with music software and playback rigs, and a reputation for turning up prepared do most of the work. It is a relationships-and-readiness job, which is why communities like this one sell preparation rather than technique.

Is a cheap community worth joining, or does the price tell you it is thin?

Price on Skool is set by the owner and is a positioning decision rather than a measure of quality, so a $15 room can be better staffed and more active than a $150 one. What price does tell you is what the owner has promised to deliver. Cheap rooms almost never promise individual attention, because the arithmetic does not survive it, so read the deliverables rather than the number: if the page promises a library, a peer network or opportunity flow, a low price is consistent, and if it promises one to one time at $15, something is going to break.
